I select a thematically appropriate horror movie for each day of the year and tell you about it.
Why?
It seemed like a good idea at the time.
How do you get to decide what qualifies as a horror movie and where each one goes on the calendar?
I am the Mayor of Horror Movies.
Are all these movies good?
Oh gosh no. But I recommend all of them to the adventurous viewer.
What’s with the CWs?
In horror movies, disturbing material is part of the entertainment package. But for some viewers, elements like sexual violence or bigotry ruin the fun. For those folks, I include content warnings. That said, the warnings are based on my personal reactions and should not be expected to cover all potential cinematic skeeviness, so proceed with caution.
Who are you, aside from the mayor?
I’m Shaenon K. Garrity. I’m mostly a cartoonist. I watch a lot of scary movies while I draw cartoons.
These days, this film feels more like an expose than a sci-fi/horror movie. I remember Roddie Piper from my one year or so of watching professional wrestling – first time I ever saw a guy in a kilt (I have been wearing kilts since my sweetie talked me into buying one 8 years ago).
Wow, I’d forgotten about this! My mom made me watch all the really campy horror movies, first with the Night of the Living Dead knock offs (giant mardi gras heads confusing the zombies), and then stuff like this. Don’t remember much, but Roddy Piper and the glasses definitely!
I love this movie, it’s such a string of enjoyable scenes and has so many moments people recognize, even if most of them couldn’t tell you how it starts, where the plot line goes, or the conclusion.

John Carpenter’s movies with Kurt Russell are all classics, but really Piper might have been more right for this than Russell would have been
This one is another great entry for the Cult Classic of the Week calendar, IMHO…
You forgot to mention that the fist fight was between Roddy Piper and KIETH DAVID!!
